Lives and works in Melbourne

Daniel von Sturmer’s practice involves a range of media and approaches including video, photography and installation. His works orchestrate a field of relations between people and things, light and space, video and time, where the encounter between audience and artwork reveals a dialectical interplay of viewer and viewed. His approach is experimental, playfully testing expectations of quotidian occurrences and ordinary experience.

Exhibitions include Play: video art in the collection, Gothenburg Museum of Art, Gothenburg, Sweden (2022); CATARACT (concrete), permanent installation, ACMI, Melbourne, (2020); Painted Light, Geelong Performing Arts Centre, (2019); Spacemakers and Roomshakers, Art Gallery of New South Wales (2018); Red Green Blue: A History of Australian Video Art, Griffith University, Queensland Collage of Art, Brisbane (2017); Electric Light (facts/figures/federation square), Melbourne Prize for Urban Sculpture (winner), Federation Square (2017); Wheriko — Brilliant!, Christchurch Art Gallery Te Puna O Waiwhetū, Christchurch (2017); Electric Light (facts/figures), Bus Projects, Melbourne (2017); Electric Light, Anna Schwartz Gallery, Melbourne (2016); These Constructs, Anna Schwartz Gallery, Melbourne (2014); Camera Ready Actions, Young Projects, Los Angeles (2014), The Field Equation, ACCA, Melbourne (2006).
