Elec­tric Light (facts/​figures/​anna schwartz gallery upstairs)

Using a mov­ing head pro­file light, site spe­cif­ic pro­gram­ming and cus­tom-built sten­cils, the work projects light to cre­ate an ani­mat­ed sequence of ​‘fig­ures’ that inter­act with the architecture.

A com­bi­na­tion of humour, sur­prise and sim­ple fram­ing, the work draws atten­tion to the con­struc­tion of the gallery space – both its archi­tec­tur­al fram­ing as well as the unin­ten­tion­al chore­og­ra­phy of the view­er. The facts of the site are made evi­dent: left­over plugs and hang­ing fix­tures, walls, win­dows, pow­er sock­ets and secu­ri­ty cam­eras, sprin­kler sys­tems and sup­port­ing beams, all become char­ac­ters on a stage.
