Electric Light (facts/figures/anna schwartz gallery upstairs)
2nd February – 2nd March 2019
Anna Schwartz Gallery
Electric Light (facts/figures/anna schwartz gallery upstairs) is an animated light installation that illuminates the architectural features of the upstairs gallery at 185 Flinders Lane.
Using a moving head profile light, site specific programming and custom-built stencils, the work projects light to create an animated sequence of ‘figures’ that interact with the architecture.
A combination of humour, surprise and simple framing, the work draws attention to the construction of the gallery space – both its architectural framing as well as the unintentional choreography of the viewer. The facts of the site are made evident: leftover plugs and hanging fixtures, walls, windows, power sockets and security cameras, sprinkler systems and supporting beams, all become characters on a stage.
Electric Light (facts/figures/anna schwartz gallery upstairs) is part of an open series; a drawing in space, dynamically redrawn with each refresh of the sequence.
