“While exploring the corridors of the Coupole at Galeries Lafayette, I was captivated by three large, long-abandoned bells. I made them ring, but their sound went unnoticed amidst the hustle and bustle rising from the store’s ground floor.
This discreet encounter sparked the idea for this film: to create both a sonic and visual connection between the Coupole, a public and iconic space in Galeries Lafayette, and the hidden backstage of the Grand Magasin. Sonic as two percussionists from the Nist-Nah ensemble are invited to compose a slow, intensifying symphony on the bells, generating vibrations that resonate throughout the staff offices. Visual because this vibration is materialized through a flower, itself an echo of the Art Nouveau stained glass windows of the Coupole. Initially motionless, this peony starts dancing to the rhythm of this seismic sound.”
