“While explor­ing the cor­ri­dors of the Coupole at Galeries Lafayette, I was cap­ti­vat­ed by three large, long-aban­doned bells. I made them ring, but their sound went unno­ticed amidst the hus­tle and bus­tle ris­ing from the store’s ground floor.

This dis­creet encounter sparked the idea for this film: to cre­ate both a son­ic and visu­al con­nec­tion between the Coupole, a pub­lic and icon­ic space in Galeries Lafayette, and the hid­den back­stage of the Grand Mag­a­sin. Son­ic as two per­cus­sion­ists from the Nist-Nah ensem­ble are invit­ed to com­pose a slow, inten­si­fy­ing sym­pho­ny on the bells, gen­er­at­ing vibra­tions that res­onate through­out the staff offices. Visu­al because this vibra­tion is mate­ri­al­ized through a flower, itself an echo of the Art Nou­veau stained glass win­dows of the Coupole. Ini­tial­ly motion­less, this peony starts danc­ing to the rhythm of this seis­mic sound.”
