Discussing Straight torque, twin series on Banksia, RRR
Amrita Hepi joins Vanessa on Banksia to discuss her new exhibition ‘Straight torque, twin series’. The pair discuss linguistic mechanisms, home, identity, time, memory, family, working with her sister Laura, and how the exhibition seeks to “confront the onlooker with the complex dynamic of the multiple and the singular”, among other things.
Born in Townsville, Amrita’s family hails from Bundjalung, Ngapuhi ancestry. Her interest as an artist is in the idea of archive particularly in relation to the body and how it is organised by people/events – beyond archives being documentation, or a bureaucratic entity.
