Molto Echo is a performance by Lauren Brincat and Bree van Reyk, a large-scale sonic consequences that resonated throughout the galleries of the MCA.
The piece made the MCA walls move, inspiring change through dramatic action, drawing attention to itself through an unnecessary disturbance. The audience and drummers took part in a musical dialogue — an informal theatrical activity. The piece wanted to be heard.
Molto Echo brought together a team of 7 rock’n’roll drummers who worked from graphic and text-based scores to create a series of sound-paintings played in response to cues from the museum’s visitors. The audience members were invited to participate in the work by creating sonic cues for the drummers on a set of bells placed throughout the gallery. A small sound, gesture and intention created an avalanche of action, commitment and resonance (a Molto Echo).
