Jenny Watson
Layerings

‘Layerings’ expresses Jenny Watson’s characteristic vignettes; her intimate but universal personal experiences; the struggles of life abroad from home; the small triumphs of social interaction and the anxiety of vocation. Painted on collections of textiles acquired during her travels, Watson’s diffuse, minimal images convey fragments of personality between opaque and transparent layers of fabric. The partial narratives played out by Watson’s economically-rendered figures float between richly-textured chiffons and organzas. With a light hand and incisive wit, Watson imbues moments of the everyday with a cinematic quality, giving poetic expression to the minor dramas of ordinary life.
