DISORENTIALISM
4th September – 4th October 2003
Anna Schwartz Gallery
When asked to say something about their work, novelists often resort to “the book wrote itself” or that their characters seemed to have lives of their own. I could say a similar thing about my work — although it would be making light of an intense process, a kind of tightrope walk between the conscious and unconscious. As the Zen masters say, a painting is already there before it is painted — but without the artist, you’d never know.
