Shaun Gladwell
Stereo Sequences
1st June – 14th August 2011
Australian Centre for the Moving Image
Shaun Gladwell: Stereo Sequences, featured a suite of new pieces exploring duality, parallels and mirroring – a series of ‘open experiments’ combining and expanding on the themes of Gladwell’s career.
Using filmic devices such as long pans and slow-motion, Gladwell captures tightly choreographed, repetitive performances by classical ballerinas, helicopters, motorcycles, muscle cars, trials bike-riders and skateboarders. The works radiate a distinct Australian sensibility, inspired by the unique landscape and local film culture, including Ozploitation era films.
Shaun Gladwell: Stereo Sequences was the first in a series of major commissions by Australian and international artists at ACMI.
