In this seem­ing­ly tra­di­tion­al exhi­bi­tion of sculp­tures, pho­tographs and video works, Aus­tri­an artist Erwin Wurm’s inter­ro­ga­tion of the very def­i­n­i­tion of sculp­ture is applied not only to human beings, but also to objects. employ­ing a range of mate­ri­als: wood, Sty­ro­foam, alu­mini­um, paint, bronze and tex­tiles, and in his pho­tographs and video works, Wurm objec­ti­fies deeply emo­tion­al and psy­cho­log­i­cal con­di­tions using sit­u­a­tions of the body. in this anthro­po­mor­phis­ing of the object he unset­tles tra­di­tion­al his­to­ries and expec­ta­tions, cre­at­ing a sense of ten­sion and dan­ger. humour also per­me­ates his oeu­vre, but under­pinned by a fierce cri­tique of con­sumer soci­ety, com­pla­cen­cy and con­tem­po­rary culture.

The One Minute Sculp­tures, to be per­formed by gallery vis­i­tors, are short dura­tional actions with a sym­bol­ic endur­ing impli­ca­tion. These works, although seem­ing­ly humor­ous, like the oth­er images, offer a med­i­ta­tion on human existence.
