Biography

Born Sydney, Australia 1949

Lives and works in Melbourne, Australia

 

John Nixon is a seminal figure in contemporary Australian abstraction. Since 1968, his work has been dedicated to the on-going experimentation, analysis and development of radical modernism. Minimalism, the monochrome, Constructivism, Non-Objective art and the Readymade are key reference points in his work.

Nixon holds a Diploma of Art from the National Gallery of Victoria Art School, Melbourne, 1970 and has studied at Preston Institute of Technology in 1968 as well as State College of Victoria in 1970.
